The pencil cascades across the thick, ivory paper. Images and ideas flood through my mind as I focus on nothing but my heart and my hand that can turn feelings into art. In class, Mrs. Meyer introduced the beginning of our gamification project. Gamification in the art room is one of the best things I've experienced this year. It gives students more freedom to learn what we're interested in. I love drawing, so I instantly gravitated towards those projects. First, I looked around for inspiration. While my imagination is as wild as the Amazon Rain forest, sometimes finding other artwork gives my work an even louder roar.
Deciding to draw a basketball player, I began the journey some people prefer to call drawing. The hardest part was keeping the proportions correct. Freedom in this project was the most enjoyable part for me. When guidelines are more strict, it is hard to not feel trapped in a tiny box. How can you stretch your arm to create an image if you are stuck in a tiny, cramped space? It is much better to have a completely open mind if what I'm looking for is an open sketch. I also feel like I really improved on my shading in this project.
Like I've really emphasized before, I love drawing. I feel so liberated as the pencil reflects my emotion. My picture I created kind of reminds me of myself as a basketball player. The only thing I wish I would have changed was continuing the hair. It doesn't look as realistic as the rest of the picture.
